Undergraduate Admissions

Admissions for the academic year 2019-20 shall open shortly. We are no longer accepting applications for the current academic year.

Our Selection Process: What is Holistic Review?

Ahmedabad University offers a rigorous academic curriculum and an intellectually stimulating environment. The Office of Admissions and Financial Aid enrols students who are academically and attitudinally prepared to thrive in the challenging curriculum, who embody our motto of growing through a spirit of enquiry and are enthusiastic about learning with an open mind.

In evaluating applicants holistically, we do not consider one single criterion (such as exam-scores in class XII) but use several criteria that include academic performance at class X, XI, and XII together with their personal background, opportunities available in one’s environment and personal qualities. In addition to academic excellence, we are positively disposed to enrol students who have excelled in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities such as action-learning research projects, internships, volunteering in communities, sports, performing arts, cultural and social service participation, and have demonstrably pursued their passion.

Apart from academic performance and extra-curricular achievements, the selection process also includes interaction with the applicant. The personal interaction is a mechanism for the University to get to know more about students who have applied for the admission to Ahmedabad University, and for applicants to know more about the University. It allows us to learn about the student beyond what their marks and certificates convey, such as personal difficulties or achievements, passions, attitudes, motivation, readiness to learn, family circumstances and life-changing experiences, etc.

As a part of our admissions process, aspirants are required to write a Statement of Purpose, which is a well thought out document written solely by the student based upon their independent reflections about their past, present and future life. This Statement of Purpose is an opportunity for the university to get to know the students deeply, over and beyond their academic achievements. The Statement of Purpose provides a context to get a deeper insight into the candidate’s aspirations, their authentic reflections about their personal preferences. This Statement of Purpose is also the avenue for aspiring students to inform us about their unique and specialised traits that would make them great candidates to join a highly talented cohort of Ahmedabad University’s undergraduate programmes. As the admissions process entails a rigorous process, candidates are encouraged to write their Statement of Purpose sincerely, truthfully and honestly.

We strongly recommend that students give themselves 2-3 weeks to complete the application after adequate reflection and thought in filling the application.

The admission is decided after taking a balanced view of all the components. Admission to a specific programme is based on the overall performance that considers all the factors and the programme requirements. An applicant’s performance is scored on each criterion and a comprehensive score is developed. Thus, it is possible for an applicant to secure admission with a lower score on one criterion (say marks in class XII) in comparison with another, due to superior performance on other criteria.

Admissions for BBA, BCom, BCom Professional, iMBA, iMSc Programmes

We encourage all aspiring students to apply as early as possible and use the online form. Candidates do not need to wait until the declaration of their Class XII (or equivalent) Examination results.

The examination scores are self-reported on the online application, which will be verified at the time of the interaction and/or during final admission confirmation.

The interviews will be conducted at the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid. For outstation students, we also conduct Skype interviews.
