About us
Foundation Programme
The Foundation Programme is a core component of the undergraduate curriculum at Ahmedabad University, undertaken by all first-year students. It consists of three intensive, four-week interdisciplinary Studio courses on Democracy and Justice, Environment and Climate Change, and Water.
These Studios are designed to introduce students to university-level inquiry through interdisciplinary perspectives, experiential learning, and critical reflection. Learning takes place through a combination of lectures, discussions, collaborative studio work, and field-based or activity-driven engagements.
For each Studio, we seek Teaching Assistants who are deeply invested in teaching and learning, curious about engaging with ideas across disciplines, and motivated to support students as they encounter unfamiliar concepts, methods, and ways of thinking.
Role Summary: Teaching Assistants/ Studio Associates play a central role in shaping students’ learning experiences within the Foundation Programme Studios. Working closely with faculty coordinators, the Teaching Assistants support both the intellectual and pedagogic dimensions of the courses.While morning sessions are typically led by faculty through lectures and discussions, the Teaching Assistants are expected to actively engage in these sessions and then take a lead role in facilitating afternoon studio activities. This includes helping students translate theoretical ideas into practice, supporting collaborative learning, and fostering inclusive and reflective classroom environments. First Year Interdisciplinary Seminar on Critical Thinking and Writing (FYIS)
The First Year Interdisciplinary Seminar on Critical Thinking and Writing (FYIS) is a core component of the undergraduate curriculum at Ahmedabad University and is undertaken by all first-year students across majors. The Seminar is designed to support students’ transition into university-level learning by strengthening their critical reading, writing, and thinking skills through interdisciplinary inquiry.
Each Seminar engages students with carefully selected texts, ideas, and problems drawn from diverse disciplines. Learning takes place through close reading, structured discussions, writing workshops, peer review, and reflective assignments. The emphasis is on developing students’ ability to read analytically, write clearly and persuasively, and engage thoughtfully with arguments.
For each First Year Seminar, we seek Teaching Assistants who are deeply invested in teaching and learning, enjoy working closely with student writing, and are attentive to how students develop ideas across drafts. We are particularly interested in applicants who appreciate interdisciplinary learning and are motivated to guide students through the intellectual and ethical demands of academic writing, including the responsible use of generative AI tools.
Role Summary
Teaching Assistants play a central role in supporting students’ learning experiences within the FYIS. Working closely with faculty members, TAs contribute to both the intellectual and pedagogic dimensions of the course, with a particular focus on reading, writing, and providing feedback.
While faculty typically lead core discussions and lectures, Teaching Assistants are expected to actively participate in these sessions and take a lead role in facilitating small-group discussions and reading of the assigned material. Role Summary: Professor Ashim Rai’s lab in the Division of Biological and Life Sciences at Ahmedabad University is looking for a motivated and self-driven postdoctoral fellow to work on biophysics of Salmonella-host cytoskeleton interactions. The research project would be directed towards understanding the biophysical molecular mimicry mechanisms used by Salmonella pathogenic factors to hijack host cell cytoskeletal networks. The ideal candidate would have a PhD degree in biochemistry or biophysics and an experience in cytoskeletal biology would be highly desirable. Role Summary: The selected candidate will work on air quality assessment under an ISRO-funded project
Responsibilities: The research fellow will take part in the development of IoT-based air quality sensor devices, as well as deployment and data collection, mainly over the Himalayas. This is a lab and field-based work. It includes air quality assessment based on field observation and satellite data involving theoretical calculations.
Project duration: Initially, it will be one year; it can be extended to another six months based on the recommendation of a committee of experts who will review the performance of the candidate and the progress of project work. The position is co-terminus with the project.
