Director of Advancement

Function: University Office

Role Summary: This position will be responsible for the fundraising and development at the University

Responsibilities

  • This position needs to engage with the internal stakeholders and translating their needs into proposals for potential supporters outside the university.
  • To understand the needs of external stakeholders and make the University develop projects to meet their needs.
  • To develop detailed plans and work towards clear outcomes and targets.

Key Skills

  • Must have Excellent communication, project development, interpersonal relationship skills and result orientation.
  • Must have previous resource development and business development experience.

Qualification

  • Preferably an MBA and 15 years of experience from a reputed institute.
  • Preferably an MBA and two decades of experience.

Assistant Director/ Associate Director of Libraries

Function: University Library System

Reporting to: Director of Libraries

Level: Director

Role Summary: Overseeing library operations, library applications, and Management Software. Designing the new library services to support research and teaching. Manage online resources, including procurement and usage analysis.

Responsibilities

  • The person will be responsible for managing library operations and library applications.
  • The person should have operational knowledge of Metadata, Citation tools, Plagiarism check tools, and AI technology to be used in the library.
  • The person will be responsible for managing electronic resources, frequently generating usage Reports.
  • Analysing the library statistics and managing the license agreements.
  • The person will design new library services and create user awareness.

Key Skills: Relevant experience in Library/office management. Knowledge on different kinds of library resources. Library requirement analysis and Collection management. Library services assessment, Emerging trends in Library services.

Qualification: Candidate should be a PhD or NET or SLET/SET qualified. First Class (60% or above) in MLISc or equivalent qualification. Overall, 15 years of relevant experience, with 10 years or more in a University library in an Assistant Librarian Position or Librarian in a college library of repute.

Deputy Technical Manager/Technical Manager, School of Engineering and Applied Science

Location: Fabrication Shop/ Learning Factory (may change in future)

Reporting to: Sunil Kale, Dean, School of Engineering and Applied Science

Qualification

  • Essential: Diploma/BE/BTech in Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline
  • Desirable- ME/MTech in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline)

Experience: A total of at least 15 years of which at least 5 years in industry or academics

Expertise/ Skills required

Essential

  • Knowledge and implementation of professional laboratory practices;
  • Familiarity with safety measures for workshops/factories;
  • Planning, scheduling, and execution of laboratory activities;
  • Skills in operation and maintenance of hand tools, power tools;
  • Fluency with CAD/CAM packages, and MS Office packages;
  • Competency in preparing and using engineering drawings as per standards;
  • Skills with metrology tools and inspection methods;
  • Ability to prepare process sheets for manufacturing and Gantt charts;
  • Operation and maintenance of CNC/conventional machines and 3D printers;
  • Ability to work with students, faculty, and staff;
  • Coordinating with vendors, OEMs, and industries.

Desirable

  • Experience in manufacturing components and assemblies;
  • Selection and purchase of bought out components;
  • Ability to learn and operate new equipment, Robotics, AI tools.
  • Experience in assisting in innovations (projects, experiments, etc.) for teaching, industry projects, etc.

In case of any shortfall in the above, it will be mandatory to undergo training. 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Manage FabShop, Learning Factory, and assist with Tinkerer’s Lab covering scheduling, purchases, maintenance, tooling, etc.
  • Assist faculty and instructors in conducting classes in the Shop;
  • Assist students with design projects, innovation, and prototyping;
  • Assist faculty in making innovative learning techniques;
  • Use and impart instruction for operating hand- and power tools; jigs, fixtures, metrology tools, assembly, etc.;
  • Plan, schedule, and execute classes/projects with students/faculty;
  • Practice and enforce safety and professional practices;
  • Operation and maintenance of CNC and conventional machines;
  • Any other task assigned by the Deans/faculty

The University has plans for expansion of its manufacturing facilities and related infrastructure. Therefore, the roles and responsibilities will expand beyond those listed above which will require new learnings and acquiring new skills.

Executive Director, Institute of Manufacturing and Economy

About the Institute: The Institute of Manufacturing and Economy (IME) at Ahmedabad University is envisioned as a premier interdisciplinary centre advancing research, policy, innovation, and industry engagement at the intersection of manufacturing, technology, sustainability, and economic development. IME aims to serve as a bridge between academia, industry, and government—driving thought leadership and actionable solutions for India’s evolving manufacturing ecosystem.

Position Summary: The Executive Director will be a builder-leader responsible for establishing IME as a nationally and internationally recognised centre of excellence. This role requires a corporate-style executive with strong strategic, financial, and operational capabilities who can build a sustainable institution with measurable impact. Reporting to the University leadership, the Executive Director will build and scale the Institute’s research portfolio, industry partnerships, policy engagement, and executive education initiatives, ensuring academic rigour alongside real-world impact.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership and Vision

  • Define and execute a 5–10-year strategic roadmap aligned with the University’s mission.
  • Position IME as a leading voice in manufacturing innovation, industrial policy, and economic transformation.
  • Build around emerging opportunities in manufacturing in India, e.g., Industry 4.0, sustainability, supply chains, industrial policy, and digital manufacturing including automation.

Institution Building and Governance

  • Establish governance structures, advisory boards, and performance frameworks.
  • Support high-calibre faculty, researchers, and program leaders.
  • Foster an interdisciplinary culture across engineering, management, economics, and public policy.

Industry and Policy Engagement

  • Build strategic partnerships with corporations, MSMEs, industry bodies, and government agencies.
  • Lead sponsored research, consulting, and collaborative innovation initiatives.
  • Represent IME in national and global forums.

Research and Academic Excellence

  • Promote high-impact research, publications, and policy papers.
  • Develop executive education, certification programs, and industry-focused learning modules.
  • Enable translational research and commercialisation pathways.

Financial and Operational Management

  • Drive financial sustainability through grants, philanthropy, endowments, and industry revenue.
  • Oversee budgeting, compliance, and operational efficiency.

  • Develop Institute’s brand as a thought leader in manufacturing and economic policy.

Candidate Profile

Education: Advanced degree (PhD, MBA, or equivalent) in engineering, management, economics, public policy, or related fields.

Experience

  • 18+ years of progressive leadership experience in:
    • Manufacturing or industrial sectors
    • Consulting or advisory firms
    • Research or policy institutions
    • Institution-building roles
  • Demonstrated P&L or business-unit leadership experience preferred.
  • Track record of scaling organisations, raising funds, and building partnerships.

The ideal candidate has worked in the manufacturing industry, understands innovation, engages with industrial policy and has a relevant advanced degree. Should be able to work with academic and industry equally well.
