Aditya Vaishya

Assistant Professor

PhD (National University of Ireland)

Research Interests: Environmental Impact Of Aerosols - Tiny Solid Or Liquid Particles In The Atmosphere.

Profile

Professor Aditya Vaishya is an Assistant Professor at the Division of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, School of Arts and Sciences, Ahmedabad University. He is an Atmospheric Physicist specialising in physicochemical characterisation of atmospheric aerosols in diverse environments, aerosol - radiation interaction under sub-saturated and super-saturate humidity fields, and aerosol instrumentation, and whose research interests include aerosol-cloud-radiation interaction,  development of light-weight sensors for atmospheric studies, and air quality modelling.

Dr Aditya’s interest in the environmental impact of aerosols - tiny solid or liquid particles in the atmosphere - solidified while researching his PhD, obtained in 2012 from the Centre for Climate & Air Pollution Studies and School of Physics, National University of Ireland Galway. During his PhD, he developed a state-of-the-art instrument for quantifying aerosol optical growth, and characterized the physicochemical properties of marine aerosols. Specifically, he delineated the role of marine organics in altering aerosol radiative properties and developed parameterizations for this role.

Prior to starting his PhD, Dr Aditya worked at the Space Applications Centre, Ahmedabad, where he was involved in validation activities related to ISRO’s Oceansat satellite. He is actively involved with ISRO’s Geosphere-Biosphere Programme and Regional Aerosol Warming Experiment, and Indo-UK programme on South West Asian Aerosol Monsoon Interactions. He was an INSPIRE Faculty at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre’s Space Physics Laboratory in Thiruvananthapuram, India. At VSSC, he worked on a project funded by the Department of Science and Technology and the Indian Space Research Organisation, leading a team to develop an instrument for the study of aerosol hygroscopic properties. He is also involved in India’s polar research programme and was deputed to the Indian Arctic station, Himadri, for aerosol-cryosphere interaction studies.
