Bachelor of Science (Honours)

BS (Honours) is a comprehensive degree programme for prospective students who wish to pursue a higher degree in Sciences in India or abroad or find an opportunity in the knowledge industry. Upon completion of studies, students can take up positions in industry and research laboratories, start their own venture or pursue advanced degrees & research at academic institutions. With interdisciplinary training obtained throughout the programme, students can also opt for alternative career paths such as in science writing, data science & IT, analytics, finance etc. 

The programme promotes exposure to research alongside an active role in society. Students get an opportunity to work in well-equipped laboratories working hands on research equipment. Currently offered Majors under BS (Honours) programme are Computer Science, Mathematical and Computational Sciences, and Physics. 

Admission Criteria for BS (Honours) in Computer Science

  • Students with Mathematics as a subject in 12th standard
    The Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Computer Science is open to anyone who has completed Class 12 or equivalent with Mathematics as a subject (see Programme Description for important details).
  • Students without Mathematics as a subject in the 12th standard.
    Candidates who have been admitted to the university in another Major or Undeclared Major/Programme and who do not have Mathematics at Class 12, will have to take prescribed courses at the university and achieve a satisfactory grade in those courses as prescribed by the University (Please see Programme description for details) before they can apply for a change in Major to Computer Science.

* Please note that this programme requires a strong background and preparation in Mathematics demonstrated by a high level of achievement in Mathematics at Class 11 and 12 and in the initial Mathematics courses at the university. The following preparation will be required based on the marks scored in Mathematics at Class 12.

  • If the candidate scores more than or equal to 70% in Mathematics at Class 12 or equivalent, she is eligible to take MAT282 (Multivariate Calculus).
  • If the candidate scores less than 70% in Mathematics at Class 12 or equivalent, she has to appear in the University’s prescribed Diagnostic Test in Mathematics at the Class 12 level. Upon passing this test, she is eligible to take MAT282. Otherwise, she has to take MAT146 (Intermediate Calculus, a pre-requisite for MAT282) before enrolling for MAT282. This can be counted as a part of GER or Free Electives.
  • Candidates who do not have Mathematics at Class 12, must take the following courses at the university that can be counted as a part of GER or Free Electives.
    STA101: Introductory Statistics
    MAT142: Introductory Calculus
    MAT146: Intermediate Calculus
    Upon successfully completing MAT146, she may register for MAT282.
