Excitement, happiness, and curiosity filled the air as the incoming students arrived at Ahmedabad University. With over 900 students from 26 Indian states, including 33 per cent from outside Gujarat and 53 per cent girls, Orientation 2025 for the students enrolled into undergraduate programmes brought together a vibrant mix of backgrounds, aspirations, and stories. It marked the start of a four-year experience shaped by rigorous academics, interdisciplinary learning, and the freedom to explore one’s interests with intent and imagination.
Addressing the students and their parents, Vice Chancellor Professor Pankaj Chandra spoke about the demands of a fast-changing world, shaped by conflict, climate change, and technological disruption. He emphasised that Ahmedabad University’s education prepares young people not just with knowledge, but with the ability to navigate complexity, think critically, and contribute meaningfully. He urged students to use these four years for self-discovery and purpose. He also encouraged parents to act as enablers, offering support while allowing their children the freedom to explore and grow.
The Orientation offered a glimpse into life at Ahmedabad University: interdisciplinary academics, a strong culture of support and well-being, and a campus environment that values creativity, exploration, and collaboration.
Alongside this new undergraduate cohort, more than 200 students entered graduate programmes, including 35 doctoral scholars, further strengthening the University’s culture of research and advanced study. As part of their orientation, the students immersed themselves in the academic rigour and interdisciplinary learning ecosystem of the University.
Students from the Master of Business Administration, Master of Science in Economics, Master of Science in Quantitative Finance, Master of Management Studies in Heritage Management, Master of Technology in Computer Science and Engineering, and doctoral programmes met faculty, explored facilities, and built connections with one another.
They were introduced to various cutting-edge resources available to them, including the Bloomberg Lab for financial and market analytics, the library’s extensive collections, including the full repository of Harvard Business School Publishing, collaborative project spaces, as well as access to specialised facilities like the newly inaugurated Tinkerers’ Lab for building prototypes and VentureStudio, the University’s incubation hub, for fostering startups. The Ahmedabad Career Development Centre outlined how it will support them through internships, live projects, and career planning.
The University offers a rich ecosystem to support original, interdisciplinary research. Scholars engage closely with faculty who have earned their doctoral degrees from top global universities and benefit from research grants, cutting-edge laboratories, and industry partnerships. Active collaborations with international institutions further enrich their academic experience through exposure to diverse ideas and global networks. We look forward to seeing the incoming students bring fresh ideas into the classroom, lead projects that make a difference.
