The Miracle of Folk Art
Dr Cristin McKnight Sethi (she/her) is a cultural leader, curator, educator, scholar, and writer with expertise in the history of textiles and craft-based media. Cristin cultivated a deep knowledge of art and material culture of South and Southeast Asia through her graduate work at the University of Texas at Austin (MA, 2008) and the University of California, Berkeley (PhD, 2015), as well as while working at several museums throughout the United States including the UCLA Fowler Museum of Cultural History, the Asian Art Museum San Francisco, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Museum of International Folk Art. Cristin has taught at California College of the Arts, Colorado College, the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, and George Washington University where she developed a wide range of courses related to textiles, craft, and global art histories. She is currently Director of Education at Textile Center, a national centre for fiber art based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and serves as Chair of the Selection Committee for the International Folk Art Market, where she has the great pleasure of interacting with and learning from indigenous artists from around the world.
