Raschakra: Afghani Dukhtaran

A Celebration of Women’s Writings presented in a Performative Reading Style

Raschakra is a literary and cultural platform active since 2016. Described as ‘rasikon ki addebazi’, it is a group of like-minded people who follow their heart and perform in their own time, place, and pace. Raschakra uses the performative reading format to celebrate women’s writings (mostly non-fictional texts) and brings them to the world in a way that is both enjoyable and thought-provoking.

Some of the celebrated and much-appreciated performances of Raschakra are:

  • Hum Khawateen - Based on 100-year-old writings of Muslim women
  • Haqeeqat aur Khwab - Based on Rokeya Sakhawat Hossai’s writings
  • Har Qatra Toofan - Gandhi as seen by women
  • Mohabbat Zindabad - A collation of original and translated poems of love
  • Afghani Dukhtaran - Raschakra’s latest production, also its fifth

Afghani Dukhtaran

Afghani Dukhtaran. Raschakra’s latest presentation, recounts the stories of resistance and the extraordinary courage and bravery of Afghanistan’s women in the face of oppression, not just now but at different points in history. It also brings tales of love, sexuality, and disappointments, and is a sharp commentary on their day-to-day happenings. Afghani women are not monoliths; they come from different backgrounds and choose to express themselves in different ways. Often their articulation takes the form of poems, letters, emails, journals as also graffiti and wall writings, some of which are part of this presentation. Drawn from writings in Persian, Pashto, Dari, and English, the pieces have been translated into Hindi by Nasira Sharma, Ani I Janvijay, Apoorvanand, Ashok Kumar Pandey, Ashok Kumar Jha, Purwa Bharadwaj, Yogesh Pratap Shekhar, Rajesh Chandra, and Ranjit Abhigyan, to name a few.
