The artistic expression of still life involves a practice wherein the artist will translate a curated set-up of objects into the paper exactly as one observes it. The very notion of still life appreciates the magical beauty of everyday, mundane life, and in doing so, an attempt will be made to capture the poetics of domestic substance. After all, sentiments are found not only in material luxury or, for instance, in ideal fictions of stardust and fairytales, but also in what is otherwise perceived as prosaic objects of everyday reality. The ambition and the objective of this workshop is therefore to urge the participants to exclusively direct their attention to these commonplace materials and by only using charcoal or graphite, reproduce the complexity in simplicity whilst gaining also an admiration for everyday joys and quiet moments.
