Ferromatik Milacron
We the students of Mechanical Engineering at SEAS, AU visited Ferromatik Milacron, a pioneer in themanufacturing of Injection Moulding Machines, located in Ahmedabad, during the 6th Semester of our engineering. We were made familiar with the mechanism and construction of Injection Moulding Machines and how different products were manufactured using them. The production house was enormous in itself, consisting heavy duty cranes for shifting of large parts. The company also successfully adapted Quality Engineering by implementing preventive measures like Kaizen, 5S approach, and many more for maximum efficiency in manufacturing. Additionally, they had their own Paint Shop so as to comply to the customer's requirements in all aspects. One of the highlights of the visit was their newly developed shop floor which boasts state of the art technology in production of various machine parts. It had all the ranges of CNC, VMC and HMC machines which adhere together for a smooth and precise manufacturing process. Along with the great technical aspects of the company, they also run a hygiene concious canteen, which provides the unused food to the underprivileged. To summarize, I'd like to say that the visit generated a great learning experience with a mixture of technical exposure of machines and the proactive approach of implementation of quality in their products. The Industrial visit to Ferromatic Milacron was the one which helped in getting some on field experiences. The day of visit began with a short introduction by their executive about the type of machinery they have been manufacturing and the type of processes they are using for the manufacturing. Their prominent machine manufacturing unit is of injection molding which was already taught to us in our curriculum. By then, the executive took us to every Bay of the industry which produces different duties (heavy, light, medium) of machineries and gave us an exposure to how the process of manufacturing actually works in a systematic way and also the way they use certain rules of quality engineering (eg: 5S) in order to maintain their repeatability and quality of products. The experience of Ferromatic Milacron played a vital role in giving us a broader idea that what sort of perspectives come into play for the manufacturing of a single machine and its management.
