Indian Physics Association DAE - C V Raman Lecture 2020-2021
Indian Physics Association DAE - C V Raman Lecture 2020-2021 to be delivered by Dr. Anil Bhardwaj, Director, Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad on 10th March, 2021.
Title of the talk: Challenges and Science of Indian Planetary Missions
India embarked on an ambitious planetary exploration programme with the 2008 launch of the Chandrayaan-1 mission to the Moon. Since then India has successfully placed an orbiter around Mars as part of the Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) launched in 2013, and launched the ongoing Chandrayaan-2 mission to the Moon. Several future missions to study the solar system are planned including Aditya-L1 to study the Sun. This talk will discuss the Indian planetary missions, related challenges, and highlight the science derived from them.
Speaker: Dr. Anil Bhardwaj
Designation: Director, PRL, Ahmedabad
Dr. Anil Bhardwaj has been the Director of the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) in Ahmedabad since 2017. Prior to joining PRL he was the Director of the Space Physics Laboratory (SPL) of the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre in Trivandrum. Dr. Bhardwaj initiated research in planetary sciences at SPL and contributed to the development of planetary science activities in ISRO and the Department of Space, including the planning of planetary missions of India. He has been associated with experiments on Chandrayaan - 1, Mars Orbiter Mission and Chandrayaan - 2. He has made outstanding contributions in the field of solar system X-ray astronomy and in the study of planetary upper atmospheres and ionospheres, and comets.
