Humanizing AI: Ethics, Peace, and Wellbeing in Education

Shitanshu Mishra

<p>Shitanshu Mishra is a learning and educational technology scientist with over 13 years of professional experience. He currently serves as the Chief of Digital Learning, AI, and IT at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (UNESCO MGIEP), a UNESCO category-1 educational research institute based in New Delhi. In his role at UNESCO MGIEP, Mr Mishra leads research and development in educational technology, with a focus on designing and evaluating AI-driven online learning platforms to enhance learners’ competencies related to SDG 4.7. He also oversees the institute’s flagship project on ethics in Artificial Intelligence in Education (AIED). Mr Mishra earned his PhD in Educational Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB), Mumbai. After completing his doctoral studies, he worked as a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Vanderbilt University for two years. He then returned to IIT Bombay as a research scientist with the EdTech research group for one year before joining UNESCO MGIEP. Mr Mishra’s research interests span various domains, including technology-enhanced learning environments, AI in education, computing education research, authentic learning, scientific temper, and student question-posing.</p>
