The rapidly changing climate poses threats to communities across the globe, including rising temperatures, deadly weather events, and changes in suitability for infectious disease transmission. The Lancet Countdown 2024 report highlights that out of 15 monitored indicators, 10 have reached concerning new records. Although funding for climate action remains scarce, significant financial resources are still allocated to activities that harm health, such as fossil fuel investments. These actions reduce our chances of survival and exacerbate health inequities, affecting the most disadvantaged populations the worst. What steps can researchers, the public, and policymakers take to address these challenges?

Dr Apoorv is the Senior Editor of The Lancet Regional Health - Southeast Asia. Prior to joining The Lancet Group, he worked for the Journal of Visualized Experiments as a Science Editor focusing on Bioengineering. He has also worked as a Senior Executive at Vins Bioproducts Ltd (India) and as a Senior Scientist at Sephirah Innovations Pvt Ltd (India). He obtained his PhD in Biotechnology (Neuroscience/Parasitology) from the University of Hyderabad (India). He is interested in infectious diseases, global health, and human rights.
