Book Talk: Fallen City: A Double Murder, Political Insanity, and Delhi's Descent from Grace

Book Talk: Fallen City: A Double Murder, Political Insanity, and Delhi's Descent from Grace

The brutal murders of Geeta and Sanjay Chopra, which traumatised Delhi and transfixed India, took place during an exceptionally unsettled phase in the modern history of the capital. The double murders of the teenage siblings came at the time of the chaotic Janata government and was bookended by the Emergency in 1975-77 and the anti-Sikh riots of 1984. The murders also highlighted the two men accused of killing Geeta and Sanjay: Billa and Ranga, who remain marked in infamy decades after their execution. In Fallen City, the first full-length exploration about the murders, the hunt for the killers, and the aftermath, all set in the backdrop of those grim days, Sudeep Chakravarti, Professor of Practice at the School of Arts and Sciences takes readers on a compelling journey. Maya Ratnam, Assistant Professor at the School of Arts and Sciences, will be in conversation with Professor Chakravarti.
