The Emperor of All Maladies: Can we Cure Cancer?
Cancer is a word that strikes fear in the heart of most people when it is diagnosed. Amongst all diseases this seems to be the most dreaded one. But what exactly is cancer? Why do we not have a cure for cancer after so many years? Is cancer curable? What advances has Science made in the treatment of cancer? These are some of the questions that will be answered in this colloquium. I will also explain why cancer is not one disease but a collection of diseases. My own research in the area of oral cancer will also be discussed.
