Master of Technology in VLSI, Microelectronics and Semiconductors

The School is starting the Master of Technology programme in VLSI, Microelectronics and Semiconductors from the academic year 2026-27. Students will get exposure to industry-standard Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tool for VLSI design, and TCAD tool for understanding semiconductor devices and process technology. Students will learn VLSI design abstractions, flows, techniques, and pre-silicon verification, focusing on high-performance digital sub-systems and processor architectures. The programme also provides specialised knowledge in modelling, designing, and simulating micro/nano-scaled semiconductor-based Integrated Circuit (IC) devices, including application-specific semiconductor devices like optical and memory devices and their fabrication processes. Students will also gain industry exposure through a year-long project component or pursue academic research with a thesis.

Eligibility

Eligible candidates must hold a BE/BTech degree in Electronics, Electrical, Electronics and Communication, Information Technology, Information and Communication Technology, Instrumentation and Control, Computer Science and Engineering.

Admission Process

  • Candidates must apply through the online application form and pay a non-refundable application fee of INR 1,200. Upon registration, candidates are issued a unique login ID, which they must use for subsequent correspondence during the admission process.
  • GATE / CUET-PG Qualified Candidates: Applicants with a valid GATE or CUET-PG score are exempted from the University’s written entrance examination and will be invited directly for a Personal Interaction.
  • Non-GATE / CUET-PG Candidates: Applicants who do not possess these scores must appear for a Written Entrance Exam conducted by the University.
  • Final Selection: Final selection is contingent upon a mandatory Personal Interaction round.

Fee Structure

The two-year tuition fee for the incoming class of 2026 is INR 3,50,000 (INR 1,75,000 per annum) and INR 20,000 (INR 10,000 per annum) towards books/ course materials/ activity charges.

Payment Schedule
Offered candidates are required to pay fees as per the offer letter and confirm admission.

Refunds
Refunds for withdrawal/cancellation of admission will be as per UGC Guidelines.

Fellowships

We believe that finances should not stand in the way of pursuing education. 

  • ​Students admitted to the MTech programmes will receive a stipend of INR 8000 per month for the first year as a Teaching Assistant where the student is expected to assist faculty members in the teaching of assigned courses both semesters. GATE qualified students will receive INR 12,000 per month as Teaching Assistants. 
  • Industry-sponsored students are not eligible for Teaching Assistantships. 

Placements and Industry Research Projects

The University’s Career Development Centre facilitates students for one year of full-time industry research-based project and placement opportunities. The programme lays the foundation for career opportunities in the VLSI design, semiconductor devices, and process technology sectors of the semiconductor industry and research labs. Graduates of this programme will be prepared for professional roles such as:

  • Design Verification Engineer
  • FPGA Design Engineer

Are there opportunities for research or thesis work?
 

The programme has a one-year MTech Major Project component where students can opt for an off-campus industry project, gain experience by working on industry problems, or opt for an on-campus thesis to conduct academic research.

What is the duration and syllabus of the Online Test?
 

The Online Test is an hour long, conducted in MCQ format. The syllabus covers basic undergraduate topics in electronics, including electrical circuits and network, electronic devices, analog circuits, digital logic circuits, computer architecture, microcontrollers and embedded systems.

Is financial aid available for this programme? Is it available for both the years of the Master programme?
 

Students needing financial assistance can opt for a Fellowship, in which they are required to undertake Teaching-Assistantship under faculty members and assist them in teaching. This is available for both years of the Master programme. If you wish to avail yourself of the Teaching-Assistantship, please indicate so in the application.
