Ahmedabad University's School of Engineering and Applied Science is starting the Master of Technology Programme in Microelectronics and Semiconductors from the academic year 2025-26. Students will get exposure to industry-standard Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tool for VLSI design, and TCAD tool for understanding semiconductor devices and process technology. Students will learn VLSI design abstractions, flows, techniques, and pre-silicon verification, focusing on high-performance digital sub-systems and processor architectures. The programme also provides specialised knowledge in modelling, designing, and simulating micro/nano-scaled semiconductor-based Integrated Circuit (IC) devices, including application-specific semiconductor devices like optical and memory devices and their fabrication processes. Students will also gain industry exposure through a year-long project component or pursue academic research with a thesis.

Eligibility and Selection Process
A graduate with a BE or BTech (Electronics/ Electrical/ Electronics and Communication/ Information Technology / Information and Communication Technology, Instrumentation and Control, Computer Science and Engineering) degree can join this MTech programme. Candidates need a valid GATE Score in CSE/ECE OR take Ahmedabad University conducted entrance examination. They must appear for the interviews as a part of the selection process.
Admission Process
- Eligible candidates must apply through the online application form with payment of a non-refundable application fee of INR 1200 (inclusive of GST). Upon online registration, candidates will receive a unique login ID, which they must use for subsequent admission process correspondence.
- Applicants with a valid GATE score are short-listed for a Personal Interview (PI).
- Applicants without a GATE score undergo a written entrance test followed by a PI.
Selection Matrix
All the shortlisted candidates are invited to participate in the Personal Interaction (PI) round for admission. After that, the admission offers are made to the eligible candidates.
Fee Structure
The two year tuition fee for the incoming class of 2025 is INR 3,50,000 (INR 1,75,000 per annum) and INR 20,000 (INR 10,000 per annum) towards books/ course materials/ activity charges.

Fellowships
At Ahmedabad University, we believe that finances should not stand in the way of pursuing education.
- Students needing financial assistance can opt for a Fellowship of INR 50,000 per year, requiring them to undertake a Teaching Assistantship under a faculty member assisting them in teaching. For students choosing the Fellowship option, their effective tuition fees will be INR 1.25 lakh per year.
- These fellowships are not applicable to industry-sponsored students.

The University’s Career Development Centre facilitates students for one year of full-time industry research-based project and placement opportunities. The programme has a one-year MTech Major Project component where students can opt for an off-campus industry project, gain experience by working on industry problems, or opt for an on-campus thesis to conduct academic research.
The MTech entrance exam will be one hour long and comprise questions based on core topics in electronics, including electrical circuits and network, electronic devices, analog circuits, digital logic circuits, computer architecture, microcontrollers and embedded systems.
Students needing financial assistance can opt for a Fellowship, in which they are required to undertake Teaching-Assistantship under faculty members and assist them in teaching. This is available for both years of the Master's programme. If you wish to avail yourself of the Teaching-Assistantship, please indicate so in the application.
