Structure of the Foundation Programme

The Foundation Programme Thematic Studios are interdisciplinary and immersive courses in the Studio format on Democracy and Justice, Environment and Climate Change, Neighbourhoods and Water. The duration of each Studio is 4 weeks, and Studios are divided into four week-long modules each of which address one important aspect related to the Theme. The final module may involve an activity that requires students to integrate the learning of the previous weeks into creating a final outcome in the form of a resolution of a problem, a document, an object, etc.

The Studios will engage the student from 9:45 am to 4:30 pm. The morning sessions will be faculty driven and will include lectures and discussions while the activities in the afternoon will be coordinated by Teaching Assistants, who also attend the morning sessions.

In 2019-20, the Foundation Programme will be conducted in two phases – July 29, 2019 – September 27, 2019, and March 2, 2020 – May 1, 2020. In each approximately 2 month phase each student will complete 2 Studios. There will be 4 sections of each Studio in each month with approximately 60 students in each section. Two of the sections will be staggered by a week with respect to the other 2 sections for logistical reasons.

The structure of the Foundation Programme and the Studios may be modified in the future.
