Sourav Sarkar is an economist working on Political Economy and Development Economics. For his research, he collects and compiles large datasets, many of which are only recently becoming available in electronic version. Large datasets have the potential to give new insights into questions related to Political Economy and Development. He uses rigorous empirical techniques to identify causal impacts as well as associations. These methods can be used to answer long-standing questions in political economy. He holds a PhD in Economics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, MA in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University and BSc in Economics (Honours), Mathematics, Statistics from (erstwhile) Presidency College, University of Calcutta.
