Ahmedabad University Alumnus Leads Asia-Pacific Water Heritage Efforts

Ahmedabad University alumnus, Sukrit Sen, MMSHM Class of 2020, has been elected Vice President for the Asia-Pacific Region of the International Scientific Committee for Water and Heritage (ISCWH), a part of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS). He is also the youngest board member of the ISC.

In his role, Sukrit will focus on exploring the diverse water heritage of the Asia-Pacific region. He aims to strengthen the Emerging Professional Working Group, fostering interaction with the concept of water heritage within heritage discourses. Additionally, he will advocate for improved practices in the water heritage sector and identify opportunities for the scientific committee to promote water heritage sites.

Reflecting on his journey, Sukrit shared, “My journey with water began during my studies at the Centre for Heritage Management at Ahmedabad University, as well as during my internship with the Living Waters Museum as part of the course. My interest in water deepened when I explored intangible cultural heritage, particularly the role of music in relation to water. I examined water as a medium for sound propagation and studied water-carrying utensils as percussion instruments. This exploration helped me narrow my focus in the water sector, ultimately leading to this role.”
