Ahmedabad Student to Study Current Biology Methods at EMBL Lautenschläger Summer School

How can students from fields outside of biology be inspired to explore interdisciplinary research in life sciences? The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) Lautenschläger Summer School “Talents teach talents” is one such unique programme that will offer undergraduate students a glimpse into the world of cutting-edge research by exposing them to the exciting possibilities of high-end imaging and its applications in various areas of biology, at Europe’s flagship laboratory for the life sciences.

Ahmedabad University student Charvi Trivedi, Integrated MS Class of 2024, is among the students who will gain hands-on experience in current biology methods, such as building a high-speed microscope to image developing organisms as part of the “Talents teach talents” programme. She will learn to use machine learning to extract insightful data from the resulting complex images.

Charvi will pursue the programme alongside a select group of students from several fields, including Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Mathematics, and Computer Science, who will get insights into how their skills in subjects such as physics, mathematics, and computer science can contribute to biological research.

Built on the strength of EMBL’s research portfolio and its expertise in training young scientists, the two-week summer school programme will uncover new insights in varied fields, including Cell Biology, Developmental Biology, Genome Biology, and Neurobiology. The diverse curriculum of the programme will include lectures by EMBL faculty, along with practical sessions and tutorials led by EMBL PhD students.
