A Student’s Guide to Thriving on a Semester Exchange in Finland

“My semester exchange programme in Finland was an extraordinary journey of academic enrichment, cultural immersion, and personal development. It opened my eyes to new possibilities and provided invaluable experiences that will shape my future endeavours,” said Priyanshi Raval, BBA (Hons) Class of 2025, on participating in a semester exchange programme at the University of Vaasa in Finland.

“It taught me resilience, adaptability, patience, and independence. Navigating a new country, adapting to a different educational system, and overcoming language barriers were challenges that ultimately strengthened my character and boosted my confidence. I returned home with a renewed sense of purpose and a broader worldview,” said Priyanshi.

Priyanshi experienced Finland’s globally renowned education system, including innovative and student-centric teaching methods focusing on logical and critical thinking. She mentioned how the professors encouraged open discussions in class and valued each student’s input, creating an inclusive and stimulating academic environment.

The opportunity to engage with a diverse group of students from around the world and exposure to a multicultural environment fostered a sense of global citizenship and expanded her understanding of different cultures and perspectives, thus complementing the academic rigour of the University. Priyanshi often collaborated on group projects, which improved her teamwork and communication skills, forging lifelong friendships.

Living in Finland also allowed her to experience the local culture and traditions, from enjoying the unique culinary delights to participating in traditional activities, offering a deeper appreciation for Finland’s rich cultural heritage. Furthermore, she credits the University and local community for their invaluable assistance, ensuring a smooth transition and making her feel at home despite being miles away from her country.
