Ahmedabad University is a private, non-profit university, established in 2009 by the Ahmedabad Education Society (AES), which is over 80 years old and was established at the behest of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India's first Home Minister with the purpose of advancing education in Gujarat. In a decade, Ahmedabad University has grown to be a research university, committed to the discovery of ideas and preparing students to think creatively and deeply across fields to emerge as compassionate leaders who can solve the complex issues faced by our society.

Ahmedabad University is developing its campus over 250 acres. In Phase I of development, about 70 acres have been earmarked for academic buildings and student amenities.
The Central campus comprises the School of Engineering and Applied Science and the Biological and Life Sciences division. It will, in days to come, house the School of Arts and Sciences, the Centre for Performing Arts, and the Student Activity Centre.
The South campus consists of the university office that houses the university administration and the Amrut Mody School of Management's undergraduate programmes. The North campus houses the Amrut Mody School of Management’s graduate programmes and the university fields. The School of Computer Studies is located in the East campus.
