Ashoke Chatterjee is a Trustee of the Prabhat Education Foundation (Ahmedabad), Adviser and former President of the Crafts Council of India (Chennai), and former Director of the National Institute of Design which he served for 25 years. His career has also spanned the engineering industry, international civil service, India’s public sector and participation in several development sectors including education, environment, water and sanitation, livelihoods, health, culture and human rights. Born in 1935 in Mussoorie, Prof Chatterjee was educated at Woodstock School, Delhi University and Miami University (Ohio, USA). An author, his latest book “Rising” on a development experience in Gujarat over 30 years was published in 2011.
