Assessment of Abiotic and Biotic Stresses on Historic Monuments: Developing an Integrated Research Framework for Built Heritage Management
Heritage conservation has come a long way in the understanding of deterioration of heritage structures from material science, structural analysis, chemical analysis and biological growth issues and their remediation or conservation. Yet, the dilemma in most of heritage sites management is that the management authority or site manager is not able to interlink various parameters studied in different areas including the unintended consequences due to solar exposure or exposure to pollutants in the atmosphere. A pressing need is to interconnect various scientific data from the same monument and interpret them to come up with simple indicators that may serve as an early warning for a managing authority.
In this talk Faculty from various schools at Ahmedabad University will discuss a recently developed multidisciplinary approach to solving the challenges in the preservation of Built Heritage Management. The problems faced and current integrated approach developed within Ahmedabad University will be presented.
