Introduction to Gender Studies: Dominant Masculinities and Femininities
Introduction to Gender Studies: Dominant Masculinities and Femininities
There is an increased interest in gender, from a wide range of actors including young people, companies, the state, and international organizations like the World Bank. Much of this is concerned with women as economic actors and their (missing) role in advancing economic growth. In this talk, Professor Mathew will present a broader understanding of gender that encompasses both masculinities and femininities, in the plural. She will clarify commonly used terms like patriarchy and sex-gender system, and further, introduce concepts that are useful to understand how particular enactments of gender become dominant in specific places and times.
