Energy Consumption and Emissions for Developing and Emerging Economies
Exploring the relation between Energy Consumption and Emissions for Developing and Emerging Economies
The relationship between emissions and economic growth is theorised to follow an inverted U-shape, with pollution rising in early development stages and declining after a certain income level. Assuming a linear link between energy use and emissions, a similar U-shape might exist between growth and energy consumption. However, energy efficiency plays a crucial role in shaping this relationship. In developing and emerging economies, sectors like agriculture, industry, and transport vary in energy efficiency, and shifting sectoral contributions affect the emissions-energy dynamic. This highlights the need for sector-specific and efficiency-focused policies, with broader implications for sustainable growth through technology adoption and urban planning.
