Research Interests: Resource and Environmental Economics, Energy Economics, Real Options, Macroeconomics.
I obtained my Bachelors in Economics (BSc) from the University of Calcutta in Kolkata, India in 2004 before obtaining my Masters in Economics (MSc) from University of Calcutta too in the year 2006. I received my PhD in Economics from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC, USA in 2013. My research interests mainly include Energy Economics, Resource and Environmental Economics, Macroeconomics, Real Options and Growth Economics. I resort to mostly numerical methods for my research. One of my current research topics include the question of India using more of wind and solar and reducing its coal use in electricity generation in order to meet its ambitious domestic targets and Paris Agreement goals. Other research also includes finding the overall value of investments in renewable energies in India. Recently, after joining AU, myself and two of my colleagues have applied for a project with the University for understanding if major educational reforms introduced in 2016 (consolidation of colleges under AU and degree programmes and stricter attendance requirements) have an effect on students' employability and academic performance. I have teaching experience for about 9 years now. I have taught Environmental Economics (Undergraduate and Master’s level), Advanced Mathematical Techniques for Economics (Master's level), Microeconomics (Undergraduate and Master’s level) and Macroeconomics, Vector Calculus and Selected and Topics in Mathematics for economics students at the undergraduate level. I use softwares such as Mathematica, Matlab and Gretl for my research. I have served as co-director of a couple of undergraduate theses. Currently, I am also serving as an internal member of one of the doctoral students at AU. Other academic experience includes being a reviewer for the journals Journal of Agricultural and Applied Economics, Economic Modelling, The Energy Journal and the International Journal of Energy Sector Management. I have also served as member of university academic committees throughout my career. I have been involved in designing and planning for the novel and interdisciplinary Foundation Programme introduced to all first year students since August 2019. I have also been teaching in the programme. I have also been a student advisor for Circle of Care in Ahmedabad University and other interview committees as part of service to the University.
