Women Development Cell (WDC)

In line with the directives of UGC and the Supreme Court of India Women’s Development Cell has been set up at SEAS -Ahmedabad University to uphold the dignity of women at work and address any grievances.

The formation of a institute level Women Development Cell was initiated on September 11, 2014, in compliance of this mandate by UGC for the Women Development Cell at SEAS, Ahmedabad University.

Purpose of the cell

  • Provide a platform where female members of the institute (staff/students) can present their issues.
  • Creating general awareness regarding issues faced by women at work.
  • Address the grievances of women members at the institute level and resolve it.
  • Arrange workshops and lectures at the Institute Level for awareness and empowerment.
  • Arrange events in coordination with the other cell/club of the Institute and Ahmedabad University.

Recent events organized

  • A Talk by Dr. Latha Kamat – Radiologist, Medical Superintendent, ESIC (Employees State Insurance Corporation) Model Hospital, Ahmedabad was organised on 8th March, 2017. She talked about her experiences and thoughts on women empowerment, anecdotes from her journey and also health challenges faced by working women today.

  • A Talk by Ms. Sushama Oza – Director Strategy and Sustainability – Adani Foundation was organised on 10th March, 2016 to share her experiences of " Women in Leadership Roles".

  • A feedback from all the Female students from 1st semsester – 8th semester and women staff members regarding issues effecting them and getting them resolved was undertaken. The students (1st- 8th semester) were sensitised towards the existence of WDC and its purpose.
