Professor Abir Saha is a Composite Materials Scientist whose research focuses on understanding how natural materials and biological structures can inform the design of lightweight, multifunctional, and damage-tolerant engineering materials for advanced structural and functional applications. He has published over 25 articles in SCI/SCIE-indexed journals and has reviewed manuscripts for over 50 international journals, including Composites Part A: Applied Science and Manufacturing, Composites Part B: Engineering, and Composite Structures.
Professor Saha’s research focuses on the design and development of advanced composite materials inspired by natural and biological systems. His work encompasses fibre-reinforced polymer and textile composites, sustainable bio-composites, biomimetic architectures, and additive manufacturing. His doctoral research investigated bamboo fibre-reinforced bio-composites for structural applications, with particular emphasis on material characterisation, interfacial engineering, and mechanical performance. During his postdoctoral research, he expanded his work into 3D-printed bio-composites, functional materials, bio-inspired structural designs, and bio-based piezoelectric materials. His current research aims to translate principles observed in natural materials into lightweight, multifunctional, and damage-tolerant engineering systems. His broader interests include sustainable materials, hierarchical architectures, and advanced manufacturing for next-generation structural, energy, and protective applications.
