Prospective Agencies for International Travel

Following are a tentative list of prospective sponsoring agencies for financial support for participating in national and international Conference and research related work. There can be more number of sponsoring agencies and schemes, which the faculty members are requested to individually make efforts and apply. The information given below is not complete and may change. Hence the faculty members are also requested to visit the respective notices/web sites for detailed and updated information.

Science and Engineering Research Board (DST)

International Travel Support (ITS) ITS scheme is designed to provide financial assistance for presenting a research paper or chairing a session or delivering a keynote address in an international scientific event (conference/seminar/symposium/workshop etc.). In addition, support is also provided to young scientists (age limit 35 years as on date of conference) for attending training programmes and short-term schools/workshops/courses. Economy class air-fare by shortest route, airport-tax and visa fees are provided under the scheme. Registration Fee is provided to young scientist in addition to the above support.

Department of Biotechnology (DBT)

DBT provides financial assistance towards organizing Conference/ Seminar/ Symposium/ Workshop and Travel support to the researchers for presenting their papers in the conferences which are being organised outside the country. It also extends support for organising DBT stalls in Exhibitions held within the country as well as outside the country. Financial supports are also provided for organising Popular Lectures. The collective term for these four activities is CTEP (Conference, Travel, Exhibition and Popular Lectures). DBT CREST Awards

Department of Biotechnology – Cutting-edge Research Enhancement and Scientific Training- Award. The Award aims to promote capacity building in cutting edge areas of biotechnology and life sciences. The Award will promote and support scientists of highest merit in their pursuit of skill enhancement in scientific research/training in Overseas laboratories.

Centre for International Co-operation in Science (CICS) INSA-CSIR-DAE/BRNS-CICS Travel Fellowship

CICS(formerly CCSTDS) provides partial travel fellowship/registration/ per diem to scientists/researchers in various disciplines such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Medicine, Engineering, Space Science & Technology, Computer Science and Engineering and other related areas to attend international scientific conferences, seminars and workshops abroad.

Council of Scientific and Industrial Research

CSIR has a scheme for providing travel assistance to any deserving bright young Indian Research Scholars working in an academic or research institution in India for participating in Conferences, Symposia, etc. held abroad.

The scheme is aimed at promoting Research and Development in technical education by way of providing opportunity to the meritorious teachers to interact at International level.

Sir Dorabji Tata Trust

The Sir Dorabji Tata Trust accepts applications for travel grants from candidates who are travelling abroad for advanced training in specialised areas and to participate in workshops. Students who wish to pursue postgraduate studies abroad in the field of natural sciences and humanities are also welcome to apply.

Sir Ratan Tata Trust & Navajbai Ratan Tata Trust

Travel grants are provided to the students proceeding for post-graduate and doctoral studies and for professionals proceeding for their mid-career programmes or to attend relevant and meaningful seminars and conferences abroad. The grant to students consists of only a partial international airfare from India to the university/organisation abroad. The students proceeding for fall session (July, August and September) are requested to submit their personal application to the Trusts, after finalising the university they intend to join. The last date for applying to the Trusts is May 31 every year. Students proceeding abroad for the spring session are requested to contact the Trusts three / four months prior to their departure, after finalising the university.

National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM) (DAE)

The NBHM has various schemes to provide financial support to institutions and individuals to strengthen the mathematical base/potential through study, exchange or other such programs. NBHM provides partial or full travel assistance to mathematicians for attending conferences, symposia, summer schools etc. within the country or abroad.

NBHM provides assistance to teachers to make short-term visits of at least six weeks and a maximum six months duration to another institution in India for joint work etc.

Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)

The Scheme provides financial assistance for presenting research paper or chairing a session or delivering a keynote address in an international scientific event (conference/seminar/symposium/workshop etc) to Non-ICMR Bio-medical Scientists. Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds (BIF) (International)
