Professor Sadagopan, former Director of the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Bangalore, is an alumnus of Madras University, India, and Purdue University, USA. He taught for over 25 years at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore, IIT Madras, and IIIT Bangalore, in addition to short teaching assignments at Rutgers, USA, and the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok. Professor Sadagopan obtained his Master of Science (MS) and PhD from Purdue University, USA, in 1979 and a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) from Madras University in 1973.
Professor Sadagopan has authored seven books, several book chapters, and papers. His research has appeared in reputed journals, including IEEE Transactions, the European Journal of Operational Research (EJOR), and the Journal of Optimization Theory and Applications. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) UK and the Computer Society of India. He is a Senior Member of IEEE, the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), and the Association for Information Systems (AIS). He consults widely and lectures extensively on all aspects of Information Technology.
Professor Sadagopan is and has been a member of Boards of several Universities, including IIIT Dharwad, IIIT Gwalior, IIIT Delhi, Jain University, Dayanand Sagar, Chairman of Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing (IIITDM) Kancheepuram, and the Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology (IBAB). He has been associated with corporations, such as the Bank of India, National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC), Bharat Electronics Limited, National Stock Exchange, Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML), and Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDAI) to mention a few.
Professor Sadagopan is part of several committees, including National Stock Exchange Information Technology (NSEIT), National E-Governance Services Limited (NESL), Canara Bank, and Indian Overseas Bank. He is the Non-Executive Chairman of the Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT) Governing Council.
Professor Sadagopan has also served as a Member of the Karnataka Knowledge Commission, Chief Minister's Vision Group on IT, National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) Regional Council, Indian Electronics Semiconductor Association (IESA) Executive Council, and ACM India Council and is still an active participant in a few. He was the Chair of the IEEE Computer Society, Bangalore Chapter, and actively helped several start-ups, including GAVS, DevSquare, Globarena, 8KMiles, ZipDial, and Littlemore. Currently, Professor Sadagopan advises upGrad, SociallyGood, Avekshaa, ZirohLabs, and AppSentinel.
