How can India make its companies more efficient to compete globally and turn tariffs into an opportunity rather than a threat?
This very question was raised by a first-year MS Economics student at Ahmedabad University, directly to Urjit Patel, Economist, former Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, and recently appointed Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund. The informal interaction, held at the varsity campus, offered budding economists the chance to share a platform with one of India’s eminent economic thinkers.
Patel advised embracing innovation, leveraging technology, and viewing economic distortions as opportunities. For the students, the interaction was an inspiration, encouraging them to think critically, pursue rigorous inquiry, build methodological strengths, and help shape India’s role in a changing world.
