Nitin Banker Wins Grant for Research on Fossil Fuels Alternative in Refrigeration

Nitin Banker, Associate Professor, School of Engineering and Applied Science, has been selected for the SERB International Research Experience Fellowship 2022-23, supported by the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), a statutory body of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. As part of the Fellowship, Professor Banker is at the International Institute for Carbon-Neutral Energy Research (WPI-I2CNER), Kyushu University, Japan, for three months. Professor Banker will collaborate with Professor Bidyut Baran Saha, Professor and Principal Investigator to Multiscale Science and Engineering for Energy and the Environment Thrust, at WPI-I2CNER. 

Conventional And Heat Driven Refrigeration Systems and Compressed Gas Energy Systems are among Professor Banker's core research interests. He will participate in collaborative research on 'Experimental investigation of an adsorption refrigeration system using metal-doped materials as adsorbents and water as refrigerant'. This proposed research focuses on developing an efficient adsorption system, one of the alternatives to reduce dependency on fossil fuels to generate refrigeration. SERB aims to build national capacity in frontier areas of Science and Technology by providing access to international R&D experiences for SERB fellows.
