Navigating the World: A Leadership Journey
In a world of increasing complexities, the questions that shape our future are seldom straightforward. As part of a residency programme for senior industry leaders, Ahmedabad University, in collaboration with Nayanta University, created a space for an engaging dialogue where ideas on markets, organisations, and technology converged to challenge conventional thought.
It was not just a conversation about systems but about people by studying:
- How markets are shaped not just by economics but by society.
- How technology mediates change, sometimes amplifying inequalities and sometimes bridging them.
- How leadership lies not in navigating the familiar but in understanding the dissonances of our time — social, economic, and technological.
The programme began with a debriefing session by Professor Pankaj Chandra, Vice Chancellor, Ahmedabad University; Professor Ranjan Banerjee, Vice Chancellor, Nayanta University; and Professor D Parthasarathy, Dean, Nayanta University. This set the tone for a reflective journey of inquiry into leadership and the thought process needed to solve complex societal problems.
Dr Naushad Forbes, Co-Chairperson, Forbes Marshall, and Member, Board of Governors, Ahmedabad University, led a session on Economic History and Technological Development, rooted in his thought-provoking book "The Struggle and the Promise." His insights provided a powerful lens to understand the interplay between technological advancements and societal transformation, offering context to how economies evolve and innovate.
These discussions explored the intricate relationships between leadership, technology, and society. From networks and partnerships to innovation and responsibility, the dialogue reminded us that leadership is not a destination but a journey involving asking the right questions, reimagining systems, and understanding the world we shape and the world that shapes us. By drawing on the University's strength in interdisciplinarity, the residency aimed to create a platform for leaders of tomorrow to think deeply, act responsibly, and navigate the world with purpose.
