On November 17, 2025, Ahmedabad University was delighted to host the King’s Baton Relay for the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow. It was a symbolic moment that celebrated global unity, international collaboration and the spirit of sport.
The visit holds special significance for India and for Ahmedabad, as the city has officially bid to host the Commonwealth Games 2030. Welcoming the Baton on our campus reflects growing confidence in the region’s sporting ecosystem and marks our participation in a global sporting journey with deep historical meaning.
The Baton was formally received by Professor Pankaj Chandra, Vice Chancellor, and Sonia Bathla, Director of the Sports Office. Professor Chandra noted that events like this can inspire and motivate young people, and that a student who witnesses such a moment today may one day compete on that stage or contribute to the sporting ecosystem as a volunteer, organiser or professional.
This milestone also aligns with a period of exceptional sporting success for Ahmedabad University athletes. Our contingents have delivered standout performances at major inter-university tournaments including Concours hosted by Dhirubhai Ambani University, where Ahmedabad University was declared the Overall Winner of Concours 2025 after securing the highest medal tally among all participating universities, and the Shaurya Cup at IIM Ahmedabad, where our athletes continued their strong run and emerged among the most competitive university teams in the state. These achievements span basketball, football, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, lawn tennis, ultimate frisbee and chess, reflecting a culture of discipline, teamwork and competitive excellence. The momentum has been strengthened further by national-level breakthroughs in shooting, where Ahmedabad University’s student Hitansh Dembla from the Class of 2029 has earned recognition with leading performances at the Tamil Nadu State Shooting Championship, securing qualification for national competition.
