Ahmedabad University Student on a winning streak; Gold again at the 59th National Roller Skating Championship

Holds on to her ace position from the 57th and the 58th National Roller Skating Championships

Ahmedabad University is proud of Bhavita Madhu, who is pursuing her Integrated Master of Science – Life Sciences (Class of 2023) at the University while excelling at her passion - roller skating. The young 19-year-old is a shining example of what today’s youth can achieve with the right amount of focus and discipline. Afterall, the 5-year Integrated Master of Science – Life Sciences programme at Ahmedabad University is one of our toughest, requiring hours of meticulous practical and theoretical work.

Multiple skill sets might just be the most sought after keywords for hiring candidates of the future, and young Bhavita Madhu seems to well be on her way to success. Interestingly, it may not be only because she has won the gold medal thrice on a trot at the National Roller Skating Championship but also because she is an ace at balancing her passion for skating with her commitment towards academics.

Bhavita, who has been pursuing skating since she was four, has various awards, won at national and international level competitions, under her belt. However, she has quite literally waltzed into the limelight with her recent gold in figure skating in the 17+ years age group at the 59th National Roller Skating Championship held in Chandigarh from December 13-16, 2021. Bhavita had also won the 57th National Roller Skating Championship, Visakhapatnam, 2019 and the 58th National Roller Skating Championship, Chandigarh, India, 2021.

In this category, the participant must follow the figure circle line on a specific edge. Figures become progressively complex with the addition of turns and the use of the third circle. Her perfect blend of precision, poise, balance, grace and body posture set Bhavita apart from the 200-strong participants at the National Championship.

Bhavita gives the credit of her performance to her coaches, Jyutika Desai and Raffaello Melossi, her mother, who has been her staunch supporter throughout her roller-skating journey and has been accompanying her for all her competitions, and Ahmedabad University, which has provided her the creative freedom to follow her passion while ensuring that she does not compromise on her academics. The University gave Bhavita access to the open campus spaces within their main premises to practice her skill post her academic work in the evenings.

Bhavita says that the sport has ‘lent her self-confidence, a sense of control and helped hone her balancing skills’.
