The world is navigating multiple challenges, from geopolitical shifts and climate change to rapid urbanisation. Meanwhile, the emergence of technologies such as artificial intelligence has brought everyone to the starting line, compelling people to rethink how we work, learn, create, and solve problems.
AI is no longer confined to a specialised field of technology. It is becoming part of almost every discipline and sector. For education, this calls for a shift in how students learn, apply knowledge, and prepare for a world where the possibilities and implications of AI continue to evolve.
Ahmedabad University has been building this shift into its approach to education through courses and programmes that examine AI both as a field and in relation to other disciplines. Interdisciplinary offerings, such as the course on AI in finance, enable students to understand how the technology can be applied within different domains. The University has also introduced a new major in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, which combines strong theoretical foundations with applied, interdisciplinary practice.
Additionally, the University continues to strengthen the infrastructure and resources that support AI learning and research. The recent partnership with the Indian AI Research Organisation (IAIRO) adds another dimension to these efforts through academic research collaboration in artificial intelligence and related areas. The partnership will create opportunities for joint research, educational programmes, knowledge exchange, and access to research and computational infrastructure.
The collaboration will support joint research in areas of mutual interest and enable the two institutions to pursue joint funding for AI infrastructure and resources. The partnership also provides for the design and delivery of short-term foundational and applied AI courses and certificates. Faculty, researchers, scientists, engineers, and other professionals from the two institutions may participate in lectures, seminars, webinars, and other educational and training activities.
The collaboration also provides an opportunity for eligible research interns at IAIRO to pursue doctoral studies at Ahmedabad University, subject to the University’s admission requirements. Such students may pursue the programme on a part-time basis with joint supervision. Beyond research and teaching, the two institutions will explore opportunities to organise joint seminars, science exhibitions and fairs, conferences, workshops, competitions, and other activities of mutual interest.
