Dr. Bimal Patel has over 25 years of professional, research and teaching experience in architecture, urban design and urban planning. He divides his time between two institutions. He is President of CEPT University in Ahmedabad, which is focused on the architecture, planning, design, construction and management of human habitats. Dr. Patel is also Director at HCP Design Planning and Management Pvt. Ltd. This fifty-year-old professional firm’s architectural, urban design and urban planning work is internationally recognized. Dr. Patel has received several national and international awards.
In 1996 Dr. Patel founded Environmental Planning Collaborative, a not-for-profit, planning research and advocacy organization. EPC works with local governments and other agencies to understand and transform urban design and planning practice in India to make them more effective in improving the quality of life in Indian cities.
Dr. Patel obtained a Diploma in Architecture from the Center for Environmental Planning and Technology in 1984. He obtained a dual Masters in City Planning and Architecture and a Doctoral degree in City and Regional Planning from the University of California, Berkeley in 1995. His research interests are in Land Use Planning, Real Estate Markets, Building Regulations, Land Management and Urban Planning History.
