Semiconductors are the foundation of modern technology, enabling present day gadgets and AI systems to automobiles, healthcare devices, industrial automation, renewable energy, and space technologies. As India rapidly expands its semiconductor ambitions through investments in design, manufacturing, packaging, testing, equipment development, materials, and research, a unique opportunity has emerged for engineers across all disciplines to contribute to a strategically important industry.
We will discuss the evolving semiconductor ecosystem in India, highlighting key growth areas, ongoing national initiatives, industrial investments, and the increasing demand for skilled talent. Beyond traditional electronics and design roles; we will see how mechanical, chemical, materials, computer science, instrumentation, industrial, manufacturing, and data-focused engineers generally contribute to semiconductor innovation and high-volume manufacturing.
We will go over the knowledge and skill gaps currently faced by the industry, including process integration, advanced manufacturing and automation, process development, metrology, data analytics, equipment engineering, product yield and reliability. Extending that discussion, we can chart a few roadmap for developing relevant technical, research, and professional competencies needed to participate in this growth story of innovation, collaboration, and problem-solving across disciplines and play a role in shaping India's technological and economic future.
