An accomplished Business Leader and a second-generation entrepreneur, Mr Sajjan Jindal had the foresight to lead the Steel industry and JSW in particular on a transformational journey, contributing significantly to India's growth philosophy. With a visionary approach, he has transformed the Steel industry and the JSW Group, expanding the business landscape across Energy, Infrastructure, Sports, Cement, and Paints. Recently, JSW has also ventured into the Automobile and Electric Vehicle space.
A mechanical engineer, Mr Jindal has led the JSW Group through some of its most exciting phases, including the public offer announcements of JSW Steel and JSW Energy in 1995 and 2009-10, respectively. In 2023, JSW Infrastructure, under the visionary leadership of Mr. Jindal, continued the legacy of success for the JSW Group with a remarkable IPO listing, contributing to the group's impressive growth trajectory. Today, the USD 24 Billion Group takes pride in its outstanding growth and success.
Mr Jindal is a firm believer in the “Make in India" philosophy and has received several global awards for his commendable work. He was awarded the " Business Leader of the Decade " at the 15th AIMA Managing India Awards in 2025 for his transformative leadership in shaping JSW Group into a global conglomerate. Previously, he was honoured as the " EY Entrepreneur of the Year ” in 2023 and has received accolades such as the " CEO of the Year 2019" Award by Business Standard, "Best CEO Award 2019" by Business Today Magazine, and “Outstanding Business Leader of the Year 2018” by IBLA - CNBC TV18 . Furthermore, he was awarded the JRD Tata Award 2017 for “Excellence in Corporate Leadership in the Metallurgical Industry” and the 2014 National Metallurgist Award:Industry by the Ministry of Steel, Government of India .
Apart from his business endeavors, Mr Jindal is keen on giving back to society and improving the lives of individuals. He founded the wing the live JSW Foundation , which is committed to providing opportunities to bridge the socio-economic divide and create equitable and sustainable communities. The Foundation has touched the lives of over 2 million people, providing them with the means to empower themselves and build a brighter and sustainable future.
Mr Jindal is internationally acclaimed for his significant contributions to the steel industry, as the first Indian representative to assume the role of Chairman at the World Steel Association , one of the largest and most dynamic industry associations in the world. Mr Jindal served as the President of The Indian Institute of Metals (IIM) , India's premier body for metallurgical excellence. He also serves as the Chairperson of the Board of Governors at IIT Tirupati and holds positions on the boards of various educational institutions, further showcasing his interest in both industrial and academic spheres.
Application Process
A small cohort of 40 students will be handpicked from eligible applications. Students in Grades X, XI, and XII (by May 2025) can apply for this uniquely curated experience. They should have a strong academic background and a repertoire of co-curricular and extra-curricular interests. Shortlisted candidates may also be invited for one-on-one interaction with our selection committee.

What is the Ahmedabad Grand Challenges Programme?
The Ahmedabad Grand Challenges Programme is a unique programme designed for outstanding students of Grades X, XI, and XII to help them immerse in an academically rich environment and experience the culture and ethos of a liberal education-based University. Selected participants will get to spend eight days on the Ahmedabad University Campus and learn about the various disciplines on offer. The highlight of the Programme is the thematic studio based around a grand challenge. Each student will work on a real-life project in small groups. These projects will involve inputs from multiple disciplines and methods and require students to think analytically and apply a set of concepts to design a solution to a real-world problem.

What does the programme fee include?

How does one apply for financial aid?
If you believe you are eligible for financial aid, please indicate the same on your application. You will also need to upload your family members’ latest income tax returns and other financial documents, if they are requested.
How is students’ financial need assessed for financial aid?
Students who apply for aid will have to submit the required documents as mentioned in the form for need-based evaluation of financial aid. The documents will be evaluated by an independent auditor that may involve an audit visit to your home. Additionally, the student and their family may be invited for an interaction to determine suitability for financial aid.

You will need to complete the entire payment within five days of receiving your Ahmedabad Grand Challenges Programme offer. For the extended deadline, you will need to make the payment within three days of receiving the offer.

Guardians are welcome to drop-off their child but not allowed to stay overnight on Campus.

The programme fee includes a stay in the Ahmedabad University Student Residences on a twin-sharing basis. This will also help the students experience University and hostel life and encourage collaboration with their peers.
Are the Student Residences safe?

In case of a medical emergency, is there any medical facility or hospital available on or near the Campus?
The Ahmedabad University Centre houses a Medical Centre for basic health care support and First Aid along with an on-call doctor in case of medical emergencies.
