Semester Abroad Programme at Ahmedabad University Empowers and Promotes Diversity On-campus

The Semester Abroad programme is a unique opportunity for Ahmedabad University students to spend a semester at one of our current international university partners worldwide. Through this programme, the students gain exposure to diverse educational systems in Europe and North America and intercultural understanding by living in different countries and interacting with academics and peers worldwide.

The Office of International Affairs announces and administers the semester abroad programme and works with the different Schools at the University to select students through a rigorous and fair application process. One of the critical criteria for the selection is a high GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Also, students must demonstrate why they will be a good fit for semester abroad programmes through an expression of interest form. Once selected, the student works with their faculty members (Programme Chair and Major Advisor) to select courses at the host institution and draw up a learning agreement.

Students have been visiting European partners such as the University of Valladolid, Rennes School of Business, ECAM La Salle, University of Vaasa, and the University of Applied Sciences, Nysa, Poland. In Asia, they have been visiting Lingnan University, Hong Kong. Students add to the diversity and intellectual vibrancy of the host institution and return to Ahmedabad with fresh ideas and perspectives to inspire and inform their peers about the power of international education. Ahmedabad University is open to welcoming international students for semester exchange programmes in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

I am very grateful for my time here at the Global Center for Energy and Environment at Ahmedabad University. I was hosted there from October to December to investigate local climate action plans together with Professor Pathak and enjoyed participating in campus activities such as joining the frisbee team, cultural activities, and festivals on campus. My highlight was the university Garba, where I realised how significant Navratri is for the Gujarati community. Special thanks as well to the OIA for organising my stay and helping me navigate the campus and beyond.

The University's invaluable support and guidance helped me secure the Erasmus+ PhD Internship Programme at Valladolid University in Spain for a five-month term. The Office of International Affairs support has made my first academic global travel a success. I am grateful that they considered me for the international research internship. Much gratitude to my PhD guide, Professor Ashutosh Kumar, who has been instrumental in helping me craft a compelling proposal and other documents. This opportunity represents a significant milestone in my academic journey.

I am grateful for the opportunity to study the Finnish Economy, Consumer Behavior in European Markets, and the Nordic Job Environment at a university renowned for its world-class education system in Vaasa, Finland's sunniest city! Not to mention the enchanting Northern Lights. The relentless support and guidance from the Office of International Affairs throughout the entire process made it easy. Special thanks to Anubhooti Arora for her exceptional efforts and to Professor Kunal Mankodi for the academic advising and mentorship that made this learning opportunity successful.
