My research project aims to understand the role of gut microbiota and the mucus layer in resisting Salmonella typhimurium infection. Studies have established the role of the gut microbiota and the mucus layer as a natural barrier for the host against pathogenic invasion. However, from the perspective of gut health, the dynamics of gut microbes and Salmonella interactions in the context of the mucus layer are not well understood. We are using experimental laboratory evolution and biophysical techniques to uncover this interaction.
