Community Townhall with Mallika Sarabhai
Art has always been at civilisation's heart, documenting histories and evolution for centuries. Its transformative potential has inspired many artists to contribute meaningfully to society's wellbeing, and Mallika Sarabhai is one of them.
An activist and an Indian classical dancer and actress, Mallika Sarabhai recently joined students of Ahmedabad University for an interactive conversation as part of the 'Community Townhall' organised by the University's Theatre Club. She is renowned for advocating societal concerns through art and raising awareness among the public.
Speaking about India's rich legacy in performing arts, from dance to music to theatre, she mentioned how it has communicated serious societal issues for centuries. She shared how it has been the most effective medium to communicate with people, convey messages, express emotions, highlight troubles, and more. Mallika Sarabhai added that true artists never stop learning or practicing, finding ultimate joy in their deep connection to their art form, which is the source of their greatest happiness.
