Dead Poets Society: Toba Tek Singh
The Dead Poets' Society is a series of events by the Literary Club where the focus is on one piece of literature: book, story, poem etc. that the participants have a discussion on. For the second edition of this series of events, The University Library System, in collaboration with the Literary Club, aims to focus on the short story: Toba Tek Singh by Saadat Ali Manto. Taking a satirical take on the Partition, this fictional story takes off from the real-life incident of 1950 when asylum inmates had to be shifted to asylums across the border.
“Poetry is emotion, passion, love, grief—everything that is human” ~F. Sionil Jose
Along with an insightful discussion on the short story, we also aim to host an open mic in honor of the celebration of World Poetry Day! Encouraging people to recite the poems written by them, this event aims to help participants gain confidence in poetry writing and collectively celebrate the essence of this beautiful form of literature.
