Strengthening the connection between academic research and the country’s space and technology ecosystem, Ahmedabad University and the Space Applications Centre (SAC), ISRO, have extended their academic and research collaboration for another three years. The renewed partnership will create opportunities for students and faculty to engage with research questions, technologies, and SAC's expertise.
The collaboration also broadens the scope of the partnership, creating opportunities for research, technical learning, student projects, internships, and knowledge exchange. It builds on an MoU signed between SAC and Ahmedabad University in April 2021 for academic research collaboration.
The renewed partnership will support a range of academic and research activities. These include designing and offering short-term courses for SAC scientists and engineers to strengthen their research, technical, and management skills. Faculty and scientists from the two institutions may also engage through lectures and talks, creating opportunities for knowledge exchange between academia and the space sector.
The partnership further enables Ahmedabad University to work on academic and research problems identified by SAC. The two institutions may collaborate on specific research and development projects, either independently or jointly, opening avenues for faculty-led research in areas of mutual interest.
The expanded collaboration also places a strong focus on student learning and research. SAC may collaborate with Ahmedabad University’s MTech and PhD programmes through guest lectures, mentoring, and joint student projects, including in areas such as composites. The institutions may also offer internships and project opportunities to BTech, MTech, and PhD students, enabling them to engage in research and technical work in the space sector.
Beyond research and teaching, the collaboration extends to seminars, science exhibitions and fairs, conferences, workshops, competitions, and other academic activities. These platforms will bring together students, researchers, faculty, and scientists to exchange ideas and engage with developments across science and technology.
The extended partnership brings together the strengths of a research-led university and one of the country’s leading centres for space applications, creating avenues for research, learning, and engagement between Ahmedabad University and India’s space and technology ecosystem.
