Ahmedabad Student Receives Dean's Excellence Scholarship for The University of Texas at Dallas
Dhruvil Dave, BTech (Information and Communication Technology), School of Engineering and Applied Science, Class of 2022, has been selected for the Dean's Excellence New Student Cohort Scholarship at The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) where he will be pursuing a Master of Science in the Business Analytics Cohort programme, Data Science track.
Data science and natural language processing are Dhruvil's core interests. "I was looking for a programme that would blend the two. UTD offered me that," he says. A Kaggle Datasets and Notebooks Master, he says that working with real world problems successfully helped him earn a ticket into UTD and receive the Scholarship. Dhruvil has also been working as a Teaching Assistant at Ahmedabad University since August 2021. He worked in Operating Systems in the Monsoon Semester and in Computer Science and Advanced Statistics in the Winter Semester, which also favourably impacted his admission at UTD. What drew Dhruvil to the University is its research culture. "I received acceptance letters from Boston University, California State University, Arizona State University, Rochester Institute of Technology, and UTD. However, UTD has a great track record, especially in research, which was my deciding factor. Also, I considered the job prospects, and yet again, UTD came out tops," he says.
Dhruvil is thankful to his professors for guiding him to the right university and courses and being very prompt with letters of recommendation. "I am grateful for Professor Shishir Saxena's insights in Sanskrit and all faculty at Ahmedabad University, including Professor Amit Nanavati, who mentored me, and Professor Shefali Naik for supporting me throughout," says Dhruvil, who will join UTD in August 2022.
