ASIA ONLINE is the online arm of the Centre for Inter-Asian Research (CIAR). Our commitment is to inter-disciplinary research and teaching that is not constrained by national boundaries. Our aim is to provide fresh insights into the persistent problems of the region through research, pedagogy and creative practice. Asia Online provides a web-based platform for institutional and individual collaborations and interactions.

Online Learning is an important vertical of Asia Online. There are three kinds of online courses available on this platform:

  • Diploma and Certificate courses for the general public in areas such as translation, creative writing, and heritage management;
  • Semester-long courses on comparative Asian perspectives offered to Ahmedabad University students through collaborations with Asian universities;
  • Short-duration courses for the general public on specific areas such as music, food, philosophy, and literature.

The instructors for these courses include in-house faculty, faculty from collaborating institutions, and eminent practitioners. Each course will attempt to trace an arc from India to the region at large and vice versa. https://ahduni.edu.in/online-programmes/.

Additionally, Asia Online hosts CIAR’s Knowledge Resources, which include recordings of webinars and events in cutting-edge areas of research and practice.

Future plans include research training workshops, like this one on Caste and Race. https://commons.ln.edu.hk/videos/921/
The workshop was organised in collaboration with Centre for Cultural Research and Development; Department of Cultural Studies, Lingnan University; The University of California Humanities Research Institute (UCHRI); and Centre for Inter-Asian Research, Ahmedabad University.
