Ahmedabad University organised the first edition of Leadership Conclave on 4 March 2018 and 7 April 2018 attracting seven speakers from diverse backgrounds to share their insights on leadership in a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA) world. Inaugurated by Sunil Parekh a strategic advisor for Zydus and Jubilant Group, the two days long event also featured inspiring talks from Mr Yash Vasant, the young co-founder and executive director of BNI, Mr Thomason Jose, regional head at HDFC Bank, Mr Behram Mehta, the founder of Aava, and Professor A. V. K. Mohan, a professor of Practice of Management at the University. Together they discussed values and models of leadership, intellectual, emotional, and psychological aptitudes of leaders, the need for social contribution, continuous evolution, and collaboration in a world defined by its increasingly speed and global character.
The two days long conclave concluded with a unique panel discussion held between two important women leading grassroots movements in Gujarat, Ms Reema Nanavati, the head of the Self Employed Women’s Association (SEWA), Ms Janaki Vasant, the founder of Samvedana, moderated by Professor Chirag Trivedi of Amrut Mody School of Management. The session enthusiastically attended by students brought to light very different kinds of challenges faced by leaders working in social sector vis a vis motivation and mobilisation for change.
Ahmedabad University is proud to note the success of this event and looks forward to developing this into an annual event with many more Leadership Conclaves in the coming years.
