Library has institutional membership with the following institutes to provide enhanced support to its users. Services

 

Alumni Membership

All the alumni of Ahmedabad University are eligible to become library members. Members may consult reference resources within the library premises. They can also use online databases, full-text and statistical database within the library premises during their membership period. Alumni members will not be entitled to access databases remotely. The members who opted for borrowing facility can borrow one book from the library. For more details please click here.

Book – Share: A Space to Donate, Borrow and Recommend Books

Book-Share is a place to swap readers’ own books with others. They can donate their books and pick up any that they like from the book-share rack. The readers can also recommend the best books for reading.

Circulation Services

Library membership is open for Faculties, Students, Research Scholars, Guest teachers, Non-teaching staff, and other stakeholders of the University without any charges. Alumni and Guest users are allowed on a chargeable basis. The details of the charges are mentioned in the policy on Library membership for Alumni and Guest members. The library can also allow institutional membership through a memorandum of understanding. 

Discovery Service

University Library System has integrated metadata of library catalog, subscribed databases, and in-house online resources through a discovery service ProQuest Summon. Summon discovery service is a single search window where users can connect to vital research resources in one go.

Document Delivery Services

Document Delivery Services (DDS) makes available for the article(s) which are not available in the library. The articles are borrowed from other network libraries. The service can be availed by Faculties, researchers and staff who need material for academic and research purpose or course-related assignment. Members are requested to send their articles requirement (with proper bibliographic details) through e-mail to [email protected].

HBR Case Study Procurement

Library has license agreement with Harvard Business to provide HBR/Non-HBR case studies requested by faculty members for the students.  The request form needs to be sent to [email protected]. Please click here for HBR Cases Procurement Form.    

Information Literacy Programmes

Ahmedabad University Library System conducts three kinds of Information Literacy Programme to its users

  • Regular Library Orientation/Induction Programme: This is a generalised library awareness programme for the freshers. Library conducts this at the time of induction. It is also conducted on demand from the users at the time and date specified by users.
  • School specific/Subject Specific Information Literacy Programme: This awareness programme conducted against any request from the Schools or programme to conduct a special orientation programme for their students. Library also regularly conduct orientation on any specific resources it subscribed,
  • Research workshop/Seminar: Library also periodically organizes research workshops or seminars to faculty and research scholars of Ahmedabad University. The topic of the workshop may be on writing research papers, literature search, research visibility, data repository, etc.
     

Inter-Library Loan (ILL)

Inter-library Loan (ILL) is to facilitate the users for the book(s) which are not available in the library. The books are borrowed from other network libraries. The service can be availed by faculties, researcher and staff who needs resources for academic and research purpose. Members are requested to send their document requirement (with proper bibliographic details) through e-mail to [email protected] 

New Arrivals Alerts

Ahmedabad University Library System periodically generates a list of newly added resources to the collection. The list is arranged under broad subject headings and sent to the user community over the email. For more details, please click here.

Newspaper Display

Library displays cover page and other important news clippings of the other newspapers subscribed by University Library System on the display board kept outside the library.

Reference Services

Library offers customised services to assist students, faculty, researchers and staff in locating the required information through the information sources accessible to library.

Table of Content (TOC) Service

Table of Content (TOC) is an article alert service from the library. Through this service, the library highlights some of the interesting articles appearing in the online journal for which the Library has access. For more details, please click here.

Book Drop Service

University Library System has placed a book drop box for returning library books at two places on the University campus. One is kept at the reception, Ground floor, East campus and the other at Reception, Ground floor, University Activity Centre at central campus. 

This book drop facility enables the quick return of borrowed library books within the non-transaction hours outside the library. However, we still advise the user of this service to visit the library periodically to browse the new arrival of books.

Please find below the rules regarding the Drop Box Facility:

  • The drop box should be used only to Check-in (return) the borrowed books. It should not be used for any other purpose.
  • The borrower will have to write the Registration number, Title of the book, Book Accession Number, Time and date of the return of the book in the register kept near the book drop box and drop the book inside the book drop box.
  • The borrower should avoid returning oversized borrowed books through the book drop. Borrowers are advised not to keep the book/s outside the drop box.
  • The library clears the returned books from the book drop on all working days at 9:00 AM.
  • Library staff verify the condition of the returned book and accept the Check-in only when the book is returned in good condition. The user will get a notification on receipt of book/s in the system. If there is any discrepancy in the check-in, the user will get an email notification from the library with the details of the discrepancy in the Checked-in book. Users are advised to contact the library if they do not receive information within two working days from the date of return of book/s.

Guest Membership

Guest Memberships as part of our social commitment to support the learning and reading needs of the community. Members may consult reference and digital resources within the library premises during their membership period. Guest members will not be entitled to the Remote Xs facility. The members who opted for the borrowing facility can borrow one book from the library. For more details, please click here.
